There is too much money involved in the gun industry to enact meaningful gun control. While the NRA has a lot of support from the public, their real backers are the industry surrounding gun manufacture and all the downstream business that goes along with it. The NRA has an incredible amount of influence on politicians of both parties although the Republican party seems to have a lot more invested in the group than the Dems.
